There’s a tinge of nervousness and fear when we think of speaking in public. The fear of being judged by others wipes out our chances of speaking.
How can we address this feeling?
The world in itself is a judgment zone. Therefore, blocking all noises and speaking in a complete non-judgment zone is challenging.
One of the best ways to improve public speaking is to learn it like any other skill. It involves practicing and showing up regularly.
1. Five practical ways to improve your public speaking skills 🎤
Start practicing in front of a camera or a mirror and record while speaking about a particular topic. Observe your body language, take notes and improve by practicing every day.
Although you are not receiving instant feedback, this is a great way to start talking.
Once comfortable speaking in front of a mirror, carry this confidence and voice out your opinions in small-sized groups. The fun part of communicating in small groups is that you can discuss a few topics and receive direct/indirect feedback instantly.
You will start observing signs through their body langauge.
Strive to work and learn from a diverse group of people.
Build relationships and initiate conversations with people of different ethnicities, cultures, and traditions. Observe and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and ask questions about their approach.
Reading and learning about a wide range of topics and listening to public orators can help you keep yourself updated about what’s happening around the globe.
Actively participate in group discussions, join clubs and meet-up events where public speaking is practiced regularly, or you can even join community gatherings to share your perspectives on different topics.
