1) Speaker Series
We started this series to connect international students/new immigrants with industry professionals.
In the past few months, we had the opportunity to meet experts like Nadisha Berry(Human Resources), Al Parsai(Immigration), and Master Sensi Luigi.
We discussed various topics, including job seeker challenges, immigration policies, mental health, and social psychology.
We were delighted to have members and special guests embrace these virtual meetings and look forward to hosting many such events.
2) Board and Member Highlights
Member Spotlight: Harshpreet Kaur
The launch of our “member spotlight” series turned out to be a huge success. We are grateful to have members like Harshpreet Kaur, who volunteered to teach us how to bake and make brownies.
Reach out to her for more suggestions and tips on baking.
Our new year started with another amazing note.
Our Board members (Jatinder and Harsharan ), along with one of our members ( Simarpreet ) and Sukhjit, were on OMNI Channel (Rogers TV ) via zoom with host Tarunpal. We spoke about Success and Innovation and discussed in detail current issues and challenges faced by international students.
Board Member article: By Harpreet Singh
We had an amazing session on 'How To Prepare for General IELTS'’ Harpreet shared his experience and journey on how he prepared by himself and got overall 8 bands. For the IELTS Writing preparation, Harpreet shared with the S&I members that repeating the 8+ band essays and letters word by word can help test-takers become familiar with the pattern itself. Moreover, for the speaking test, another approach can be considered to align the Part 2 speech with Past, Present, and Future. Using this approach can help you with not running out of ideas during your Part 2. One Keypoint which was also shared is - To always aim for higher bands to get desirable scores at the end: such as if the test taker is looking to achieve 7 bands, they should prepare to get 8 bands!
